Etihad Airways Announces Major Africa Expansion With Six New Routes
Etihad Airways has unveiled ambitious plans to expand its footprint across Africa, announcing six new routes from Abu Dhabi as part of its growing global network strategy.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will launch services to Accra (Ghana), Asmara (Eritrea), Lagos (Nigeria), Kinshasa and Lubumbashi (DR Congo), and Harare (Zimbabwe) between late 2026 and early 2027.
The expansion highlights Etihad’s growing confidence in Africa as one of the world’s fastest-rising aviation markets, driven by increasing tourism, trade, and business demand.
Passengers travelling from Africa will also gain improved connections through Abu Dhabi to major destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Industry experts say the move will strengthen competition on key routes while offering travellers more options and better connectivity.
With Africa playing a bigger role in global aviation growth, Etihad’s latest investment signals strong long-term confidence in the continent’s future.
