KLM, Lufthansa, and Air France Ground 37 Flights and Delay 37 Others Across Europe and Asia Due to Severe Weather

Severe weather conditions across parts of Europe and Asia have caused widespread disruption to air travel, forcing major airlines KLM, Lufthansa, and Air France to ground 37 flights and delay a further 37 services.

Powerful storms, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and reduced visibility affected several key hubs, including Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and multiple airports in East and Southeast Asia. The adverse conditions made it unsafe for normal flight operations, prompting airlines to take precautionary measures to protect passengers, crews, and aircraft.

KLM reported multiple cancellations and delays at Amsterdam Schiphol as strong winds and thunderstorms disrupted runway operations and air traffic flow. Lufthansa faced similar challenges at Frankfurt and Munich, where weather-related air traffic restrictions led to cascading delays throughout its European and long-haul network. Air France also confirmed disruptions at Paris Charles de Gaulle, with knock-on effects on flights to Asia, Africa, and North America.

In total, 37 flights operated by the three carriers were cancelled, while another 37 experienced significant delays, affecting thousands of passengers. Airlines activated their disruption management plans, offering rebooking options, travel vouchers, and, where required, accommodation for stranded travelers.

Passengers were advised to monitor their flight status closely and allow extra time at airports as weather conditions continued to evolve. Meteorological forecasts indicated that unstable weather patterns could persist, raising the possibility of further delays in the coming days.

The incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of global air travel to extreme weather events, which are becoming more frequent and severe, placing increasing pressure on airline operations and airport infrastructure.
