KLM Launches Airbus A350-900 Into Commercial Service With Inaugural Amsterdam–Toronto Flight

AMSTERDAM – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially entered a new chapter in its long-haul fleet renewal programme after operating its first commercial passenger flight with the Airbus A350-900 on 30 October 2026.

The inaugural service, flight KL691, departed Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands for Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada, marking the aircraft’s first scheduled passenger operation with the Dutch airline.

The aircraft, registered PH-ZNA and named De Nachtwacht (The Night Watch), carried passengers alongside approximately eight tonnes of cargo on the historic flight.

The introduction of the A350 represents an important milestone in KLM’s efforts to modernise its long-haul fleet, improve operational efficiency and enhance the passenger experience.

The airline plans to expand A350 operations during the 2026–27 winter season, with Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Zanzibar among the destinations scheduled to receive the next-generation aircraft.

Passengers can expect newer cabin facilities, improved onboard comfort and a quieter flying experience. The A350 also offers airlines significant fuel-efficiency advantages compared with many older-generation long-haul aircraft.

The aircraft’s arrival in scheduled service follows a lengthy evolution in KLM’s aircraft procurement strategy and signals the beginning of a new phase in the airline’s long-haul operations.

With the Airbus A350 now flying under the KLM banner, the airline is positioning itself for a more modern and efficient long-haul fleet as it continues to strengthen its international network.
