Singapore Airlines Unveils $1.6 Billion Cabin Upgrade in Major Push to Redefine Luxury Air Travel
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled a major US$1.6 billion (more than S$2 billion) investment in its long-haul passenger experience, introducing an entirely new generation of aircraft cabins designed to deliver greater comfort, privacy and luxury across all four travel classes.
Announced on 6 November 2026, the ambitious programme represents the airline’s largest cabin-product investment to date. It will introduce redesigned First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class seats, alongside improvements to in-flight entertainment, connectivity, dining and passenger amenities.
One of the biggest highlights is the new First Class experience. The redesigned suites will feature elegantly curved sliding doors, increased personal space and centre seats that can be transformed into a double bed. Singapore Airlines describes it as the largest double bed in commercial aviation.
Business Class passengers can also expect significant improvements, including new seats with sliding privacy doors, fully flat beds and more adaptable personal spaces. The airline has also focused on improving comfort for passengers travelling in Premium Economy and Economy Class, with redesigned seating and additional convenience features.
The upgrade extends beyond passenger seats. Singapore Airlines will introduce its next-generation KrisWorld entertainment system, featuring 4K high-resolution screens, Bluetooth headphone connectivity, spatial audio and a more personalised entertainment experience. Passengers will have access to more than 2,500 entertainment options.
The airline is also refreshing its onboard dining experience, with more than 100 new and updated dishes across its cabin classes, alongside expanded beverage selections and new passenger amenity kits. Business Class passengers will receive sleeper suits for the first time.
The new cabin products will progressively enter service from the second half of 2027. They will initially be introduced across 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, as well as Singapore Airlines’ incoming Boeing 777-9 fleet.
The Boeing 777-9 aircraft will feature all four new cabin products, while the A350-900 long-haul aircraft will receive redesigned Business Class seats. The A350-900ULR fleet will also introduce First Class cabins for the first time.
Beyond the aircraft, Singapore Airlines is investing more than S$130 million in improvements to its SilverKris airport lounges worldwide, enhancing facilities for passengers before departure.
The investment comes as international airlines increasingly compete for premium travellers, with carriers around the world investing heavily in upgraded business-class products, luxury suites and improved passenger experiences.
For Singapore Airlines, the strategy is about maintaining its position among the world’s leading international carriers while responding to changing passenger expectations.
With the first upgraded aircraft expected to enter service in the second half of 2027, passengers will gradually begin experiencing the new cabins as the programme progresses.
