Biman Bangladesh Airlines Approves Purchase of 14 Boeing Aircraft
| Flytechnews
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has approved the acquisition of 14 Boeing aircraft as part of a major fleet modernization and expansion initiative aimed at strengthening its long-haul and regional network.
The approved order comprises eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. The mix of widebody and narrowbody jets is expected to enhance fleet flexibility while supporting both intercontinental services and high-demand short- to medium-haul routes.
The new Dreamliners will bolster Biman’s long-haul operations, offering improved fuel efficiency, extended range, and enhanced passenger comfort on routes to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft will support regional expansion and replace older narrowbody jets, helping reduce operating costs and improve schedule reliability.
The aircraft purchase aligns with Biman’s long-term strategy to modernize its fleet, improve operational efficiency, and meet rising passenger demand as air travel across South Asia continues to recover and grow.
The acquisition is expected to be supported through structured financing and government backing, reinforcing the sustainability of the state-owned carrier while positioning Dhaka as an increasingly important regional aviation hub.
