Fastjet Zimbabwe Adds Airbus A320 to Meet Peak Travel Demand
HARARE – Fastjet Zimbabwe is boosting capacity for the busy August to September travel season with the introduction of an Airbus A320-200 on a short-term lease, marking a significant step in the airline’s expansion strategy.
The aircraft is scheduled to enter service on 1 August 2026 and will primarily operate on the airline’s busiest regional routes between Harare and Johannesburg as well as Victoria Falls and Johannesburg. The additional capacity is expected to help the airline accommodate the surge in passenger demand during the peak holiday period.
Beyond addressing seasonal demand, the A320’s introduction will serve as a strategic trial as fastjet evaluates the aircraft for a possible long-term role within its fleet. If the assessment proves successful, the airline plans to permanently introduce the Airbus A320 from 2027 as part of its fleet modernization and growth plans.
Donahue Cortes, Business Chief Executive and Country Head of fastjet Zimbabwe, said the timing was ideal for the aircraft’s introduction.
“This additional capacity enables us to meet increased demand on our busiest routes while maintaining the reliability and service standards our customers expect,” he said.
Cortes added that the temporary deployment also has broader strategic importance.
“It allows us to evaluate the Airbus A320 within our network as part of our longer-term fleet development strategy. Subject to the outcome of this trial, we see the Airbus A320 becoming a permanent part of the fastjet Zimbabwe fleet from next year, supporting our continued growth and strengthening connectivity between Zimbabwe and the region.”
The move reflects growing confidence in regional air travel demand and highlights fastjet Zimbabwe’s commitment to expanding connectivity between Zimbabwe and South Africa while positioning itself for future growth.
