Air Zimbabwe Launches Maiden Flight to Mutare
Air Zimbabwe has marked a new milestone in its domestic operations with the successful launch of its maiden flight to Mutare, bringing improved connectivity to one of Zimbabwe’s most vibrant cities.
The inaugural flight touched down at Mutare Aerodrome to a warm reception from local officials, community leaders, and aviation enthusiasts who gathered to witness the historic occasion. The expansion is part of Air Zimbabwe’s broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity and support economic growth through tourism and business travel.
Speaking at the launch, Air Zimbabwe officials highlighted the significance of the route, noting that Mutare — located near the eastern border with Mozambique and surrounded by the scenic Eastern Highlands — has long been a key hub for trade, agriculture, and tourism.
“Introducing scheduled flights to Mutare is a major step in our commitment to connect Zimbabwe’s cities and stimulate regional development,” an airline spokesperson said. “This service will make travel more convenient for business professionals, tourists, and families alike.”
The route is expected to strengthen Mutare’s accessibility, reduce travel times between the capital Harare and the city, and provide new opportunities for investment. Tourism operators have also welcomed the move, citing easier access to attractions such as Vumba, Chimanimani, and Nyanga.
Air Zimbabwe plans to operate the route with its Embraer ERJ145 aircraft, offering passengers a comfortable and efficient travel experience. Depending on demand, the airline is expected to scale up frequencies in the coming months.
The launch underscores Air Zimbabwe’s efforts to rebuild its network and reaffirm its role as the country’s national carrier.
