Airlink Pauses Hoedspruit Flights After Severe Flooding

Airlink has temporarily suspended flights to Hoedspruit following severe flooding in the region, which has disrupted airport operations and raised safety concerns for aircraft and passengers.

The airline confirmed that the decision was taken after heavy rainfall caused flooding in and around Hoedspruit Airport, affecting runway conditions, navigation systems, and ground infrastructure. As a safety-first measure, Airlink has paused services until conditions improve and the airport is declared fully operational.

Hoedspruit, a key gateway to Limpopo’s wildlife reserves and tourism lodges, has experienced widespread weather-related disruptions in recent days. Local authorities and airport operators are assessing damage and working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Airlink said affected passengers are being offered rebooking options or refunds in line with its policies. The airline has advised travelers to monitor official communication channels for updates and to avoid traveling to the airport until services resume.

The suspension is expected to have a knock-on effect on tourism and business travel in the region, particularly for safari lodges that rely heavily on air connectivity.

Airlink emphasized that flight schedules will resume once safety inspections are completed and weather conditions stabilize.
