South African Airways and CemAir Sign Codeshare Agreement

South African Airways (SAA) and regional carrier CemAir have signed a new codeshare agreement aimed at strengthening domestic connectivity and expanding travel options across South Africa.

The partnership allows SAA to place its flight code on select CemAir-operated routes, enabling passengers to book seamless journeys under a single SAA ticket while travelling on CemAir services. The agreement is designed to improve access to secondary and underserved destinations not currently served directly by SAA.

For travellers, the codeshare brings greater convenience, including coordinated schedules, simplified bookings, and through-check-in on eligible itineraries. It also enhances connectivity from SAA’s main hubs, supporting smoother onward travel within the country.

SAA said the collaboration forms part of its broader strategy to rebuild and strengthen its route network through partnerships, rather than rapid fleet expansion. By working with established regional operators, the airline aims to offer wider coverage while maintaining operational efficiency.

CemAir, which operates a fleet of Bombardier regional aircraft, stands to benefit from increased visibility and access to SAA’s distribution channels and customer base. The agreement is expected to stimulate regional travel and support economic activity in smaller markets.

The codeshare is set to roll out in phases, with specific routes and start dates to be announced in due course, subject to regulatory approvals.
