Washington National Airport to Close for July 4 Celebrations, Hundreds of Flights Expected to Be Cancelled
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will temporarily close on July 4 as the United States prepares for major events marking the country’s 250th anniversary.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority announced that the airport will suspend operations from 12:00 p.m. EDT (16:00 GMT) on July 4 to allow for large-scale celebrations in the Washington, D.C. region, including a planned military flyover.
Located just outside downtown Washington, D.C. in Virginia, the airport will also experience a temporary closure for several hours on July 3 during rehearsal activities.
The shutdown is expected to disrupt air travel significantly, with hundreds of flights likely to be cancelled or affected as airlines adjust schedules around the event.
Airlines operating through Reagan National are expected to issue travel updates and offer rebooking options for passengers impacted by the closures.
The July 4 celebrations are expected to draw large crowds to the U.S. capital, with aviation authorities implementing restrictions to support safety and security during the historic anniversary events.
Flytechnews will continue to monitor developments as airlines announce schedule changes.
