Royal Air Maroc to Equip 41 Aircraft With Starlink Wi-Fi From 2027
Morocco’s national airline is preparing to introduce high-speed satellite internet across 41 aircraft, becoming the first African airline to offer Starlink connectivity onboard.
Royal Air Maroc is taking a major step towards modernising its passenger experience after announcing plans to install Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi across 41 aircraft, with the rollout scheduled to begin in early 2027. The initiative is expected to improve onboard connectivity for passengers travelling on the airline’s African, European and international routes.
The airline’s partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by SpaceX, will allow passengers on equipped aircraft to access faster internet while flying. The service is expected to support activities such as messaging, video streaming, online work and real-time communication during flights.
Free Wi-Fi for Safar Flyer Members
Under the announced plan, access to Starlink Wi-Fi will be offered free of charge to members of Royal Air Maroc’s Safar Flyer frequent-flyer programme. Installation will take place progressively across the 41 aircraft from early 2027, rather than across the entire fleet at once.
The introduction of satellite-based connectivity could provide passengers with a more reliable internet experience, particularly on longer journeys where staying connected for work, entertainment or communication is increasingly important.
A New Chapter for African Aviation
The move represents another development in the growing competition among airlines to improve the passenger experience through technology. High-speed onboard internet is becoming an increasingly important feature as travellers expect the same level of digital connectivity in the air that they enjoy on the ground.
Royal Air Maroc says the Starlink partnership forms part of a broader modernisation strategy that includes fleet renewal, cabin improvements and upgrades to the overall travel experience.
The announcement could also put additional pressure on other African airlines to consider similar technologies as competition for international passengers intensifies.
What It Means for Travellers
For passengers flying with Royal Air Maroc, the planned rollout could mean more opportunities to stay connected throughout their journey, whether travelling for business or leisure. However, availability will depend on the aircraft being equipped with the system, and passengers should check the airline’s latest service information before travelling.
As the rollout approaches in 2027, Royal Air Maroc will be looking to strengthen its position as an international connector between Africa, Europe and other global markets.
Flytechnews takeaway: Royal Air Maroc’s planned Starlink rollout signals a significant step forward for onboard connectivity in Africa, bringing the prospect of faster internet and a more connected flying experience to passengers.
