South African Airports Monitor Jet Fuel Supplies Amid Tight Cover Levels

South Africa’s busiest airports are closely monitoring jet fuel supplies after Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed limited stock cover at two major hubs.

OR Tambo International Airport, the country’s main gateway, currently has between five and six days of jet fuel available, while Cape Town International Airport has around four to five days of supply remaining.

ACSA said it is working with fuel suppliers, airlines, and industry stakeholders to ensure continued operations and minimise disruption to flights. The company added that contingency plans are in place to manage deliveries and maintain supply chains.

OR Tambo handles the largest share of international and domestic traffic in South Africa, making fuel availability at the airport critical for airline schedules. Cape Town International is also a key hub, especially during peak travel seasons.

While no immediate cancellations have been announced, airlines and passengers will be watching developments closely as authorities move to stabilise fuel reserves.

The situation highlights the importance of resilient aviation supply chains, particularly at major airports where any disruption can quickly affect regional and international travel.
