OR Tambo International Airport Operating on Single Runway After Aircraft Tyre Burst

Johannesburg — Operations at OR Tambo International Airport were temporarily disrupted today after an aircraft experienced a tyre burst, forcing the airport to shift to single-runway operations.

According to airport officials, the incident occurred during landing, leaving the aircraft unable to vacate the runway. Airline engineers and technical teams are currently on site attending to the aircraft and assessing the extent of the damage.

With one runway closed, flight movements have been reduced, which may lead to delays for both arrivals and departures. Airlines are advising passengers to check their flight status and allow additional time when travelling through the airport.

Airport authorities confirmed that safety protocols remain fully in place. The affected runway will only reopen once the aircraft has been safely removed and the surface inspected for debris or structural damage.

Flytechnews will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
