Construction of New Ouagadougou-Donsin Airport
Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 is building a new and bigger airport. The new Donsin Airport is under construction in Donsin, about 35 km from the capital. It covers 4,400 hectares and it aims to meet the international standards and it will open its doors in 2025. The Ouagadougou-Donsin airport is to replace the old Thomas Sankara International Airport, which is overcrowded and located in a densely populated area
The Construction began in September 2021 and its expected to be completed in 2025. The Government of Burkina faso Government secured loans totaling Over €220 million (approx. 294 billion FCFA) from West African Development Bank (WADB) and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Bank for Investment and Development for construction of the new airport
This Airport is designed to handle 1 million passengers per year, this airport is expected to generate an estimate of €420 million per year and a job creation of 1500 people, this is good news for the west African country
