United Nigeria Airlines Plans Summer Transatlantic Debut with Air Anka Support
United Nigeria Airlines is preparing to enter the long-haul market this summer, with plans to launch its first transatlantic services.
The Nigerian carrier is expected to rely on Turkish operator Air Anka to provide aircraft capacity for the proposed routes, likely through a wet-lease agreement. The arrangement would allow United Nigeria Airlines to operate long-haul flights under its own brand while utilising Air Anka’s aircraft and crew.
Although specific destinations have not yet been confirmed, the Nigeria–United States market is widely viewed as the most probable target. The corridor remains one of Africa’s strongest long-haul markets, driven by significant diaspora, business, and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) traffic.
The move signals a major strategic shift for United Nigeria Airlines, which has until now focused on domestic and regional operations. Entering the transatlantic space would place the carrier among a small but growing group of Nigerian airlines attempting long-haul expansion.
Further details, including routes, aircraft type, and launch dates, are expected ahead of the summer season.
